In Which I Plot Revenge
Jul. 14th, 2010 02:22 pmI expect this kind of thing when I write. I leave room for it in the writing process. I generally call it my unconscious mind at work.
I have had plots that twisted away as I was writing a scene into a somewhat new and even revelatory direction.
I have had minor characters speak words I did not expect them to say, thereby altering inter character dynamics.
I have had a walk-on, spear-carrying extra demand to become one of the major characters in a trilogy.
I have had the cumulative effect of social and personality set-up dictate a major surprise turn of events which, in hindsight, proved inevitable because of what I hadn't quite realized I was setting up.
But never before--NEVER BEFORE--has a character devised hidden machinations behind my, the author's, back that I literally did not see coming until that character revealed them.
I would like to tell you that I will make this character suffer for this, but I have a bad feeling that I have just been pwned.
