This quote, snagged from Talking Points Memo, so perfectly encapsulates the world-view of its type that I feel obliged to reproduce it here.
Sen. James Inhofe (R-OK): "In the months ahead, it will be important for those of us in the U.S. Senate to weigh [Sotomayor's] qualifications and character as well as her ability to rule fairly without undue influence from her own personal race, gender, or political preferences."
His apparently complete unconsciousness of the basic cosmological human assumptions he is making here are so much on view to us, while so entirely invisible to him.
Also, this is such classic projection, as he is evidently unable to think through anything without undue influence from his personal race, gender, and political preference.
My dad wanted to bet me that the Republicans would NOT filibuster, but I wasn't willing to bet that they would, so we had to leave it at that and will watch the proceedings unfold without $5 riding on this very interesting nomination. I'm pleased. I think she's a strong choice.
Added: And evidently she saved baseball, too!!!
